For Sale: Cummins 3000 Watt Generator
A friend just gave me a new in the box gasoline power 6 1/2 Hp Generator as a thank you for letting him park his new RV in my driveway for a couple/few months. I'm thinking of selling this as I already have a 5600 Watt generator (that I never use). Anybody interested? Or know what this might be worth?

Re: For Sale: Cummins 3000 Watt Generator
Never heard of a Cummins gasoline powered anything.....I thought they were a diesel engine outfit ?
Anyway, a small generator like that, maybe 500-800 bucks. I bought a Coleman 10hp 5000watt for 350 bucks......and it had been used only one time. |

Still, it's probably a good product if Cummins put their name on it.
The Chinese habla dinero. Like America used to. |
Re: For Sale: Cummins 3000 Watt Generator
I have been after an older generator with a diesel engine, 4 cylinder would be perfect to convert over to used oil. The used French fryer oil is an easy enough conversion but needs to be started and shut down on regular diesel. The Vegetable oil has a different specific gravity and as it cools does not combust or atomize through the injectors well. IT gets to thick.
Once you are set up the only thing you need is a good supply of cheap filters and a racor H2o separator. If you could find older military or government surplus units that are still fairly complete a guy could put himself a nice one together n a hurry on the cheap and power the whole ranch and then some. I prefer the smaller 4 cylinder only because of the fuel consumption. I have also worked a little bit in trying to come up with a way to make used engine oil work but so far just cannot filter out enough of the carbon particulates. Anybody ever come up with that one on the cheap I would really like to here about it. |
Re: For Sale: Cummins 3000 Watt Generator
12 kw would be very ample.
I am not big on the Detroit's. I really don't care if the motor is running because a little 4 cylinder Isuzu or mits would be fine and run for years. That little unit right there if were rebuilt right would serve a person very well for a long time. The Gas Cummings generators are adaptable to Propane or NG. This is a good crossover but then again for me it would be defeating the purpose. I want the diesel for the conversion. |

Balls, thats pretty cheap. I just wonder if it is really rebuilt or just repainted.

Ended up, taking it back and spending $700 more for a Honda. We have NEVER regretted that decision. Keep the generator you got as new as possible and take it back to Cumstain Tools for a FULL REFUND if you can. If not, drop it on C-list like a hot potato. Here is the picture of that piece of crap generator we got from Schucks (look familiar?).... |
Re: For Sale: Cummins 3000 Watt Generator
My Dad bought one a couple of years ago. It saved a couple of freezers full of food in the spring after a bad windstorm took out our power for three and a half days. I don't think it is the same as that yellow one that was posted. It is only 3000 watts not 3500, as that one, and the shape and the cage looks different. Has an OHV engine and is pretty good on gas. China is a big country and may well have different makes and levels of quality of these. Cummins Tools comes around with their trucks locally about every six months and seems to take care of their customers OK. I would think seriously about buying two of these for $600 instead of buying one Honda.

Re: For Sale: Cummins 3000 Watt Generator
Just don't plug in anything digital.... Like I said, dirty power.
Real constant power uses such as maintaining a battery bank dictate otherwise. Yes you can use solid state chargers if you don't mind replacing your deep cycles every two months. Better to go with digital charging to monitor the batteries properly. For that you NEED clean power and a true sinewave. |
Re: For Sale: Cummins 3000 Watt Generator
Id steer clear of those cheap generators. They may end up costing you more money in the long run and you cant run them very hard. I bought a 7500 watt Pramac Generator two years ago, the same kind our local Fire Dept uses. I had it running for 7 and then 6 days out straight only stopping long enough to change the oil out and refill the fuel tank. Best investment I ever made as I bought it just before we were hit with two hurricanes within two weeks of each other. You get what you pay for. Alot of the cheap generators people were using around here turned into scrap metal when they were run for too many hours at a time.

As R Mac stated about dirty power, think of plugging in your cordless drill charger and ruining it. |
